Animal Caretaker Technician

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an Animal Caretaker Technician (ACT) to join a reputable Universities Laboratory Animal Resources program (ULAR) on site , located in Philadelphia, PA. The Animal Caretaker Technician will provide skills in animal health monitoring, cage sanitation, animal handling, record keeping, and operation of facility equipment.

Responsibilities for the Animal Caretaker Technician include :

• Follow all ULAR standard operating procedures, IACUC guidelines, safety policies, and quality standards.
• Perform routine health checks on animals each day, reporting any unusual observations to veterinary personnel. Ensure every animal has proper access to food and water at all times.
• Change cages, refresh food and water, and maintain housing conditions according to ULAR SOPs or approved protocols, following the schedule set by the Area Supervisor.
• Identify animals by age and sex and determine appropriate weaning times in accordance with established procedures and IACUC policy.
• Maintain accurate daily logs, room sheets, census information, enrichment records, equipment logs, and other required documentation. Ensure proper cage labeling and animal identification.

Qualifications for the Animal Caretaker Technician include :

• Up to 6 months of experience working with animals or in a related setting.
• Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary clinic, research facility, zoo, or similar environment.
• Background in animal handling and basic animal behavior.
• Eligibility for AALAS ALAT certification (preferred but not required).
• High School Diploma or GED.

Compensation for the Animal Caretaker Technician includes :

Salary Range : 21/hr
