Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Field Service Technician II to join a wireless communications team supporting the installation, maintenance, & troubleshooting of mission-critical wireless communication systems. This role is located in Detroit, MI. The Field Service Technician II will provide hands-on technical support for two-way radio and wireless communications equipment while delivering exceptional customer service and recommending solutions that meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities of the Field Service Technician II include:
• Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair wireless communications equipment, including UHF/VHF and 800/900 MHz radio systems, dispatch consoles, BDA/DAS systems, microwave systems, wireless broadband devices, and related communications equipment
• Create and modify mid-level radio programming codeplugs, including configurations with 12+ channels, multiple zones, and trunking
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues using test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, system analyzers, watt meters, TDRs/FDRs, and multimeters
• Interpret schematics, blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation to support system installation, troubleshooting, and repair
• Evaluate customer requirements and recommend appropriate communications equipment, hardware, and technical solutions
• Support base stations, repeaters, multicouplers, duplexers, battery backup systems, and related wireless communications infrastructure
• Provide professional customer service while supporting field installations, service calls, and on-site troubleshooting
• Travel regionally and/or overnight as required and participate in on-call support
Qualifications of the Field Service Technician II include:
• 5+ years of experience diagnosing, repairing, programming, and installing two-way radio and wireless communications equipment; military communications experience may be considered in lieu of traditional industry experience
• Hands-on experience with Motorola, Kenwood, ICOM, Vertex, or similar two-way radio systems
• Strong knowledge of two-way radio theory, RF propagation, communications systems, and wireless infrastructure
• Demonstrated proficiency troubleshooting communications equipment using electronic test equipment and interpreting schematics and technical diagrams
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally and/or overnight and support on-call requirements
• Experience with DAS/BDA systems, TCP/IP principles, and NIC programming is preferred
• Associate degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent technical education is preferred
• CET, R56, Motorola Astro, or MotoTRBO certifications are a plus
Compensation for the Field Service Technician II includes:
• Salary: $55,000-75,000 depending on experience
