NOC Tier 1 – Application Monitoring & System Failure Detection


The NOC Tier 1 Support Specialist will primarily focus on real-time application and network monitoring to identify potential failures and performance degradations.


Responsibilities:


·      Monitor applications and network systems for performance issues and failures.

·      Analyze alerts, verify incidents, and escalate issues to Tier 2 or higher as needed.

·      Perform initial troubleshooting steps and document findings in the ticketing system.

·      Maintain operational coverage as required.

·      Generate reports as needed.


Minimum Security Clearance Required

·      Top Secret w/ SCI eligibility

Travel

·      Up to 10%


Qualifications & Experience:


·      Associate’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).

·      1+ years of experience in a NOC or IT support role (preferred).

·      Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, SolarWinds, Dynatrace).

·      Strong communication skills and experience using ticketing systems.


Required Certifications: CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+. Candidates who do not currently hold both certifications must obtain them within six months of hire. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment. A higher-level certification may be accepted in place of CompTIA Network+ at Microsoft’s discretion.


Salary: $80,000 - $105,000

NOC Tier 2 – Light Troubleshooting & System Updates


The NOC Tier 2 Support Specialist is responsible for handling more technical troubleshooting, firmware updates, and security-related tasks.


Responsibilities:


·      Investigate and resolve Tier 1 escalated issues.

·      Perform basic system updates, firmware patches, and network configurations.

·      Work with security teams to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.

Assist in managing network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.

·      Document troubleshooting steps and create internal knowledge base articles.


Minimum Security Clearance Required

·      Top Secret w/ SCI eligibility

·      Up to 10%


Qualifications & Experience:


·      Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in IT, Networking, or related field (preferred).

·      2-3 years of experience in network operations or IT support (preferred).

·      Hands-on experience troubleshooting network issues and performing updates.

Required Certifications: CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+. Candidates who do not currently hold both certifications must obtain them within six months of hire. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment. A higher-level certification may be accepted in place of CompTIA Network+ at Microsoft’s discretion.


Salary: $105,000 - $130,000

NOC Tier 3 – Mid-Tier Troubleshooting & Advanced Escalations


The NOC Tier 3 Support Specialist is responsible for resolving complex network issues and supporting critical infrastructure.


Responsibilities:


·      Diagnose and resolve network outages and system failures.

·      Perform log analysis to determine root causes of network and application issues.

·      Assist with network performance tuning and optimization.

·      Provide mentorship and training to Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff.

·      Work directly with vendors and Tier 4 architects for issue resolution.


Minimum Security Clearance Required

·      Top Secret w/ SCI eligibility

Qualifications & Experience:


·      Bachelor’s degree in Networking, IT, or related field (preferred).

·      4-6 years of experience in network troubleshooting or enterprise IT support (preferred).

·      Proficiency in advanced network troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, NetFlow).

·      Required Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and CompTIA Security+. If

not currently certified, the selected candidate must obtain the required certifications within six months of hire. Failure to do so may result in termination of employment. A higher-level certification may be accepted in place of CCNA at Microsoft’s discretion.


Salary: $130,000 - $160,000

NOC Tier 3 - Shift Lead: Operations & Escalation Management

 

The NOC Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of their assigned shift, ensuring seamless network monitoring, troubleshooting, and escalations. This role serves as the liaison between the NOC Operations Manager, Microsoft leadership, and on-shift personnel, facilitating efficient communication and alignment on operational priorities. The Shift Lead also ensures a smooth transition between shifts by documenting and conducting passdowns with incoming shift leads.


Responsibilities:

 

·      Lead and manage day-to-day NOC operations during assigned shifts to ensure continuous monitoring and incident response.

·      Serve as the primary liaison between the NOC Operations Manager, Microsoft leadership, and on-shift personnel to maintain alignment on priorities and incident response procedures.

·      Diagnose and resolve network outages and system failures.

·      Perform log analysis to determine root causes of network and application issues.

·      Assist with network performance tuning and optimization to ensure reliability.

·      Work directly with vendors and Tier 4 architects for high-level issue resolution.

·      Ensure smooth shift transitions by conducting passdown briefings with the incoming shift lead.

·      Provide mentorship and training to Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff.

·      Monitor and enforce adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and recommend process improvements.

·      Support two-shift coverage for continuous monitoring and operations.

The NOC Tier 4 Senior Network Engineer is responsible for developing network architecture, strategic planning, and process improvement.


Responsibilities:

 

·      Design and implement scalable network architectures.

·      Develop technical documentation, SOPs, and best practices for network operations.

·      Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with security policies.

·      Lead large-scale network upgrades and deployments.

·      Work with vendors to evaluate new technologies and improvements.

NOC Tier 4 - NOC Operations Manager

 

The NOC Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the Network Operations Center (NOC) and ensuring the effective monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network infrastructure,

applications, and system environments. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and strategic planning to enhance operational efficiency, incident response, and team development.

Responsibilities:

 

·      Supervise and lead NOC teams to ensure effective performance at all support tiers.

·      Develop, refine, and implement NOC operational procedures and escalation protocols.

·      Ensure operational coverage and resource distribution for continuous network monitoring.

·      Oversee real-time monitoring, detection, and rapid response to system failures.

·      Ensure timely escalation and resolution of incidents in coordination with support teams.

·      Conduct investigations and implement improvements to minimize recurring issues.

·      Track network performance, troubleshoot failures, and ensure security compliance.

·      Collaborate on network upgrades, cloud integration, and system enhancements.

·      Mentor, train, and guide NOC personnel to enhance team performance and expertise.

·      Maintain accurate incident logs, operational reports, and technical documentation.
