Senior VDI Engineer (Horizon / VMware)

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior VDI Engineer (Horizon / VMware) to support a company focused on delivering secure, enterprise technology solutions for mission-critical federal customers. This position is fully on-site at Newington, VA. The Senior VDI Engineer (Horizon / VMware) will serve as a hands-on technical contributor responsible for designing, supporting, and optimizing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure environments within a highly secure enterprise setting. This role directly supports operational missions by ensuring reliable, compliant, and high-performing virtual desktop services.

Responsibilities for the Senior VDI Engineer (Horizon / VMware) include:

• Design, deploy, and support enterprise VDI solutions using Omnissa (VMware) Horizon hosted on vSphere
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to VDI infrastructure, images, profiles, and user environments
• Manage, maintain, and optimize VDI images, configurations, and profile solutions to enhance performance and user experience
• Conduct pre-production testing and validation of VDI image updates, patches, and configuration changes
• Automate administrative tasks and workflows using PowerShell and monitor system health using VDI monitoring tools

Required Qualifications for the Senior VDI Engineer (Horizon / VMware) include:

• 5+ years of experience supporting Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or virtualized enterprise environments
• Hands-on experience with Omnissa (VMware) Horizon and VMware vSphere environments
• Experience supporting thin client and endpoint devices using tools such as Wyse Management Suite and Dell Wyse
• Strong knowledge of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and their impact on VDI environments
• Experience with profile management solutions such as FSLogix or similar technologies
• Familiarity with DISA STIG requirements and security compliance standards
• Experience monitoring VDI environments using tools such as Liquidware Stratusphere or similar solutions
• Scripting and automation experience, with PowerShell preferred
• Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
• Familiarity with Image as Code tools such as HashiCorp Packer
• Experience with application packaging tools such as FlexApp
• Familiarity with 802.1x authentication and NDES
• Experience with endpoint security tools such as CrowdStrike or Trellix
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience
• Active TS/SCI clearance
• Security+ certification

Compensation for the Senior VDI Engineer (Horizon / VMware) include:

• Salary Range: $155,000 – $175,000 depending on experience
