Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a hands‑on Mechanisms Engineer (AIT) to support the design, assembly, integration, and testing of spacecraft mechanisms for a next‑generation satellite constellation. This role focuses on deployment systems and precision mechanisms, not static structures, and plays a critical role in ensuring reliable on‑orbit deployment of complex satellite hardware. The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with flight hardware, troubleshooting failures, and supporting mission‑critical test and launch operations.

Work Environment:

  • Full‑time, on‑site role in Midland, Texas supporting high‑tempo spacecraft assembly, integration, and testing activities. Must be eligible to work in the United States and pass a background check.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, integrate, and test spacecraft mechanisms including hinges, yokes, actuators, HDRMs, and deployable booms or arms.
  • Support satellites containing thousands of moving parts requiring precise alignment and reliable deployment.
  • Develop and operate ground support equipment for vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum testing of deployment hardware.
  • Perform tolerance stack‑up analysis and ensure proper alignment of moving assemblies.
  • Analyze test data and determine pass/fail criteria for deployment systems.
  • Troubleshoot anomalies and perform root‑cause analysis on mechanisms that fail to deploy cleanly.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and technicians to drive mechanism improvements from test to flight.
  • Calculate torque margins and hinge preload requirements for deployment actuators and separation systems.
  • Support spacecraft integration, environmental testing, and launch operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 0–4 years of hands‑on experience with aerospace mechanisms, deployment systems, or precision mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience assembling, integrating, and testing space hardware, particularly deployable or moving systems.
  • Strong understanding of beam loading, bending moments, torque margins, and tolerance stack‑ups.
  • Experience using CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Familiarity with test equipment including oscilloscopes and thermal chambers.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to lead failure investigations.
  • Willingness to support occasional early morning or weekend work to support critical deployments.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $85,000 – $140,000, depending on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, sick leave, and paid holidays.
  • Additional benefits include relocation assistance, RSUs, meal stipend, and unlimited PTO after 90 days.

Application Period: Opens on 04/20/2026 and will be accepted for at least 30 days from the posting date.
