Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Telecommunications Field Engineer I to support telecommunications and infrastructure projects by providing technical and administrative engineering support. This entry‑level role works closely with project leadership, field installation teams, and engineering stakeholders to ensure designs, installations, and commissioning activities meet engineering standards, specifications, and project requirements. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, technically curious, and comfortable working under close supervision on tasks of limited complexity.
Work Environment:
- Ashburn, Virginia
- Engineering and field support environment requiring extended computer use, coordination with project teams, and occasional site‑based support as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Support project leadership by reviewing design documentation to ensure operational needs are clearly defined.
- Interpret shop drawings to confirm project scope, device layouts, and installation clarity.
- Review commissioning plans to verify test requirements and procedures are clearly identified and executable.
- Assist field installation teams by ensuring drawings, product submittals, and documentation support accurate installation and testing.
- Communicate effectively with Functional Engineers and project stakeholders to address technical questions and resolve issues.
- Assist with risk management, change management, scheduling, tracking subcontractor deliverables, and material coordination.
- Support commissioning activities by setting up test IDs, tracking testing progress, reviewing results, and preparing warranty documentation.
- Create and update installation plans and status using project management tools such as InfraLink.
- Initiate and track trouble tickets and installation or commissioning progress.
- Conduct quality control inspections of telecommunications installations and related third‑party work to ensure compliance with standards.
- Write and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to customers or designers as needed.
- Produce engineering close‑out documentation at project completion.
- Support the Project Leader and Superintendent throughout installation, commissioning, and documentation phases.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (preferably from an ABET‑accredited program).
- 1+ year of relevant engineering or technical experience (entry‑level candidates encouraged to apply).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and written instructions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to apply general engineering principles to solve routine problems.
- Comfortable working with computers and standard office productivity tools.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while following guidance and supervision.
Compensation:
- Pay Band: $80,000 - $100,000
