Controls Engineer (PLC)

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Controls Engineer to support a very well-established systems integration and design-build company out of Richmond, VA. The Controls Engineer will program PLCs, support build, deployment, integration and commissioning of BMS, EPMS, SCADA and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities of the Controls Engineer:

·       Lead programming, configuration, installation, and maintenance of PLCs, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, and related control platforms

·       Set up TCP/IP networks, communication devices, and Modbus gateways; troubleshoot connectivity issues

·       Configure power system components such as meters, PDUs, ATS units, generators, UPS systems, and STS equipment

·       Use EPMS/SCADA tools for monitoring, trending, and verifying data

·       Support safe breaker operation and assist with PLC project updates and communication settings

·       Perform point‑to‑point testing, functional startup procedures, and prepare commissioning documentation

·       Review drawings, calculations, and supplier documents to ensure technical accuracy and compliance

·       Produce clear technical reports and maintain commissioning logs and issue lists

Qualifications of the Data Center Technical Specialist:

·       2-3+ years experience with PLCs & BMS/EPMS/SCADA/instrumentation

·       Experience with platforms such as Allen‑Bradley PLCs, Ignition, Distech, Niagara, Siemens Desigo, or Eaton Foreseer preferred

·       Strong understanding of electrical/mechanical systems, basic programming, commissioning, and industry codes

·       Effective communicator with ability to write technical documentation

·       CCST and Security+ certifications a plus

Compensation for the Controls Engineer:

·       Salary: Up to $150,000 annually * Depending on experience level as there are multiple openings*
