Systems Engineer Principal

Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Systems Engineer Principal to support a Department of Defense mission customer based in Newington, VA (Fairfax/Alexandria area). This position is a full‑time, onsite role supporting highly secure environments. As a Systems Engineer Principal, you will play a critical role in designing, sustaining, and optimizing the customer’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment, directly contributing to mission success in a fast‑paced, high‑expectation operational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and define VDI system architecture using Omnissa Horizon hosted on vSphere
• Collaborate across engineering, operations, and customer teams to resolve complex technical challenges
• Support a mission‑focused, fast‑paced environment with high operational expectations
• Manage and optimize VDI images, including understanding and implementing GPO impacts
• Perform pre‑production testing to validate stability, compatibility, and functionality of image updates
• Implement and manage profile management solutions (e.g., FSLogix)
• Monitor VDI environments using tools such as Liquidware Stratusphere
• Apply and validate compliance with DISA STIGs
• Automate workflows and operational tasks using PowerShell scripting
• Utilize Image as Code solutions such as HashiCorp Packer
• Manage thin clients using element managers such as Wyse Management
• Communicate effectively to drive outcomes that directly support the customer’s mission

Requirements:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Experience:

• 8+ years of systems engineering experience

Certifications:

• CompTIA Security+ (required)

Security Clearance:

• Active TS/SCI (required)

Required Technical Skills:

• Omnissa Horizon hosted on VMware vSphere
• Thin client management (e.g., Wyse Management)
• VDI profile management solutions
• Group Policy Objects (GPOs) in VDI environments
• DISA STIG compliance and validation
• VDI monitoring (e.g., Liquidware Stratusphere)
• PowerShell scripting and automation
• Image as Code tooling (e.g., HashiCorp Packer)
• Pre‑production testing and validation processes

Preferred Skills:

• FSLogix
• Dell Wyse Management Suite
• NDES and 802.1x
• Endpoint security tools (e.g., CrowdStrike, Trellix)
• Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
• Application packaging tools such as Liquidware FlexApp

Compensation to include:

• Salary Range: $140,000 – $175,000 **depending on experience**
• Full Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave if Required by Law
