Systems Engineer Principal

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer Principal (VDI) to support a mission-critical federal program. The Systems Engineer Principal will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments to support secure and scalable operations. This position requires strong expertise in VDI architecture, automation, and enterprise system management within a high-security environment. This position will be onsite in Newington, VA!

Responsibilities of the Systems Engineer Principal include:

• Design and define VDI architecture in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams
• Support and maintain enterprise VDI environments to ensure performance, scalability, and security
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges impacting VDI systems
• Perform pre-production testing to validate stability, compatibility, and functionality of VDI image updates
• Manage and optimize VDI images, profiles, and configurations
• Implement automation and workflow optimization using scripting tools such as PowerShell
• Support thin client environments and device management solutions
• Monitor VDI environments and ensure system health using monitoring tools
• Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and security best practices
• Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve mission objectives in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications of the Systems Engineer Principal include:

• Active TS/SCI clearance required
• Security+ certification required
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or VDI environments
• Experience with Omnissa Horizon hosted on vSphere
• Experience managing thin clients using tools such as Wyse Management Suite
• Strong understanding of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and their impact on VDI images
• Experience with profile management solutions
• Familiarity with DISA STIG compliance requirements
• Experience with VDI monitoring tools such as Liquidware Stratusphere
• Strong scripting experience, particularly with PowerShell
• Experience with Image as Code tools such as HashiCorp Packer

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with FSLogix profile management
• Experience with Dell Wyse Management Suite
• Familiarity with NDES and 802.1x authentication
• Experience with endpoint security tools such as CrowdStrike or Trellix
• Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
• Experience with application packaging tools such as Liquidware FlexApp

Compensation for the Systems Engineer Principal includes:

• Salary: $155,000 - $175,000
