Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Lead Telecommunications/Network Infrastructure Engineer to support a critical program at NIWC PAC in San Diego, CA. This position is a full‑time, 100% onsite role. This position is essential in leading the physical and logical network infrastructure supporting mission‑critical Navy systems. As a Lead Telecommunications/Network Infrastructure Engineer, you will guide teams of ISP/OSP technicians, oversee structured cabling efforts, and design secure enterprise network architectures supporting high‑stakes operational environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Physical Infrastructure Leadership (Primary Focus)
- Lead, coordinate, and provide technical direction to ISP and OSP cable installation teams.
- Plan and oversee structured cabling projects including fiber backbone, copper distribution, pathways, and rack/equipment layout.
- Develop installation standards for racks, patch panels, fiber enclosures, and cable management systems.
- Validate proper termination, labeling, certification, and documentation of copper and fiber installations.
- Oversee testing using OTDR, fiber certification devices, and copper analyzers.
- Review and approve as-built drawings, cable schedules, and infrastructure diagrams.
- Ensure compliance with Navy facility standards, NEC codes, and DoD security requirements.
- Coordinate outage windows, cutovers, upgrades, and site access with minimal mission disruption.
- Provide daily tasking, QA oversight, and performance accountability for cabling teams.
Network Engineering (Layer 2–4)
- Design and implement VLAN architectures and secure segmentation strategies.
- Configure trunking, STP, and Layer 2 switching technologies.
- Implement IP addressing, subnetting, and Layer 3 routing solutions.
- Troubleshoot issues across OSI Layers 1–4, aligning physical faults with logical network behavior.
- Configure and support routing protocols, ACLs, QoS, and secure traffic flows.
- Conduct performance analysis and capacity planning aligned with infrastructure growth.
Operational & Compliance Oversight
- Serve as the primary technical authority for physical and network infrastructure issues.
- Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and RMF security requirements.
- Support remediation efforts and secure configuration baselines.
- Maintain accurate documentation and support structured change management.
- Support incident response and root cause analysis for physical or network‑layer failures.
equirements:
- 8+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
- Extensive experience leading ISP/OSP cable installation teams
- Deep knowledge of TIA/EIA structured cabling standards for fiber and copper
- Hands-on experience designing VLAN and Layer 3 routing architectures
- Proven ability to troubleshoot across physical and logical network layers
- Active Secret Clearance
- IAT Level II certification (one of the following):
- CySA+
- Security+
- CCNA Security
- GICSP
- GSEC
- SSCP
Compensation to include:
- Salary Range: $150,000 – $170,000 (depending on experience)
