Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Director of Business Development – Federal to lead strategic growth across the U.S. Government sector for a rapidly growing and venture backed Satellite Mission Management company. This mission-critical role is responsible for identifying, developing, and capturing new business within DoD, the Intelligence Community, Space Force, SDA, DIU, and other federal agencies. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in government contracting, a proven ability to secure complex U.S. Government deals, and a strategic mindset capable of translating mission needs into actionable business opportunities.
Responsibilities of the Director of Business Development:
- Drive end-to-end business development, capture, and growth strategy across federal defense and national security markets.
- Identify, qualify, and mature new opportunities in alignment with company objectives and product roadmaps.
- Develop strong, trusted relationships with DoD, IC, Space Force, SDA, DIU, and other federal stakeholders.
- Lead capture efforts, including competitive assessments, win strategy development, teaming, proposal planning, and pricing alignment.
- Execute disciplined B2B2G strategies, enabling joint offerings and partner-led government engagement.
- Collaborate with technical, product, and executive teams to align solutions with government mission requirements.
- Manage pipeline development, forecasting, and reporting to ensure visibility into federal growth performance.
- Represent the company at customer meetings, industry events, conferences, and partner engagements.
- Support proposal development, including shaping requirements, reviewing sections, and contributing to win themes.
- Ensure all activities align with federal acquisition regulations, internal governance, and ethical compliance.
Qualifications for the Director of Business Development:
- 5+ years of experience in government-focused business development, sales, or capture management.
- Demonstrated track record of winning and managing complex U.S. Government contracts.
- Experience working with defense and national security agencies, preferably DoD, IC, Space Force, SDA, DIU, or related mission sets.
- Deep understanding of government procurement, contracting mechanisms (FAR/DFARS), and acquisition lifecycle.
- Proven ability to formulate and execute strategic capture strategies.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and executive briefing skills.
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, highly technical, and evolving environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Political Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Compensation for the Director of Business Development:
- Salary: $150,000 - $180,000 (+commission and equity)
