Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Technical Specialist to support a leading organization in the industrial controls and critical infrastructure industry, located in Manassas, VA. The Technical Specialist will provide advanced technical leadership across BMS, EPMS, SCADA, and Industrial Control Systems, focusing on complex integrations, commissioning, and system optimization for interconnected environments in large data centers.
Responsibilities of the Technical Specialist:
• Development, implementation, and maintenance of advanced BMS, EPMS, SCADA, and ICS systems
• Perform basic TCP/IP configuration
• Configure communication devices and troubleshoot communication link failures
• Configure Modbus gateway devices and use tools such as Modscan for diagnostics and monitoring
• Interpret vendor manuals and configure power meters, PDUs, ATS units, generators, STS, UPS, and battery systems
• Navigate EPMS and SCADA platforms for monitoring, trending, and data retrieval
• Safely open, close, rack-in, and rack-out breakers for point monitoring
• Understand PLC applications to load and update projects, configure communication parameters
• Prepare and review basic electrical sketches, commissioning plans, and datasheets
• Perform routine electrical and mechanical calculations
• Assist with supplier documentation reviews for compliance
• Support basic commissioning, inspection, and testing of electrical components and systems
• Apply knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical theories
• Demonstrate familiarity with switchgear, transformers, breakers, panels, relays, UPS systems, power monitoring, and related equipment
• Write and Perform point-to-point and functional startup scripts on EPMS/BMS systems
• Manage startup progress, issue lists, and commissioning standards/tools
• Use CX Allow and other commissioning tools to track progress and issues
• Troubleshoot and perform basic programming for PLC and SCADA systems
• Produce clear, accurate, and concise technical documentation
• Maintain awareness of applicable industry codes and standards
• Communicate clearly with internal teams and customer stakeholders
Qualifications for the Technical Specialist:
• 8+ years of installation, troubleshooting, or testing experience in EPMS, BMS, industrial instrumentation, and/or SCADA systems (with a High School Diploma)
• Preferred experience with technologies such as: Allen Bradley PLCs, Ignition, Distech, Niagara, Siemens Desigo, Eaton Foreseer, Schneider EPO, OSI, Wonderware, instrumentation calibrators/simulators
• Preferred certifications: CCST, Security+
• Ability to work with computers for extended periods
• Ability to sit for long durations and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
• Strong listening comprehension, verbal communication, and written communication skills
• Ability to apply general rules to specific technical problems
• Ability to understand spoken information clearly
Compensation for the Technical Specialist includes:
• Salary range: $130,000-$150,000 annual salary (depending on experience)
