Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Data Scientist to support the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This is a full-time, remote position. As a Data Scientist, you will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter by delivering insights that enable clients to turn data into action. Your work will provide transformative solutions to big‑data challenges and help advance mission‑critical objectives.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members to achieve the mission and deliver meaningful data-driven outcomes.
- Build and maintain PySpark data pipelines within the Databricks environment.
- Optimize Spark job performance, addressing bottlenecks and improving resource efficiency.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and high‑performance backend software components and services.
- Research, design, and develop proofs of concept in the data space.
- Write clean, maintainable code aligned with established standards and best practices.
- Conduct detailed code reviews, providing constructive feedback and identifying risks or improvements.
- Debug and resolve defects, proactively identifying root causes before issues impact users.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand‑ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Support estimation, prioritization, and sprint planning to ensure timely and budget‑aligned delivery.
- Engage in continuous learning to stay current with industry best practices, sharing insights with the team.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of R.
- Solid experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and distributed computing.
- Strong expertise with Python and Apache Spark.
- Deep understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation Includes
- Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 (based on experience)
- Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Paid Time Off, and Sick Leave (as required by law)
