Network Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to support a company focused on securing and sustaining Navy and DoD enterprise network operations. This position is on-site in Suffolk, VA. The Network Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert supporting routing, switching, and firewall operations across complex multi-vendor environments. This role directly supports mission-critical Navy and DoD networks vital to national defense.

Responsibilities for the Network Engineer include:

• Serving as a technical SME on network engineering tasks supporting Navy and DoD environments
• Conducting technical reviews, audits, and on‑demand administration of complex routing and switching systems
• Managing multi‑vendor routing and switching platforms across MPLS and VRF architectures
• Performing Tier 1 troubleshooting for connectivity, firewalls, routers, and switches using JMN ticketing
• Implementing network designs and ensuring IA compliance across multi‑tenant configurations

Required Qualifications for the Network Engineer include:

• 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity and/or information security
• Experience with three or more routing/switching platforms (Cisco ASR, Cisco Catalyst, Cisco Nexus, Juniper MX, etc.)
• Expertise in LAN/WAN transport technologies (MPLS, DISN Optical, CEG) and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, SDN)
• Strong firewall administration skills and working knowledge of DoD STIG requirements
• DoD 8570 IAT/IAM certifications (Security+, A+, Network+, OS certifications, etc.)
• Active Secret clearance

Compensation for the Network Engineer includes:

• Salary Range: $85,000–$125,000 depending on experience
