Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Mechanisms Engineer to join a Federal Consulting company located in Midland, TX (fully on site). The Mechanisms Engineer will support the design, assembly, integration, and testing of spacecraft mechanisms, contributing to the rapid production and deployment of a next-generation satellite constellation. This work is 100% on site.
Responsibilities of the Mechanisms Engineer:
- Assemble, integrate, and test spacecraft mechanisms, including thousands of moving parts per satellite
- Develop and operate ground support equipment for vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum testing
- Analyze test data, determine pass/fail criteria, and support spacecraft integration and launch operations
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure mechanism performance from design through mission deployment
- Troubleshoot anomalies, perform root-cause analysis, and contribute to design improvements
- Implement process improvement to streamline repeated manufacturing and workflows, improving consistency and reducing rework
Requirements for the Mechanisms Engineer:
- 4+ years of experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or related engineering fields
- Proficiency in mechanical assembly, testing, and integration of space hardware
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, thermal chambers)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility for occasional weekend and early morning work (e.g., 4 AM deployments)
- The initial 50–60 hour workweeks, including some weekends, are due to an accelerated satellite production ramp-up, but will ease to 40-hour weeks as operations stabilize, with built-in flexibility and protected Sundays to support team sustainability
- Must be able to provide 2 letters of recommendations from former managers/ employers
Compensation for the Mechanisms Engineer:
Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000+ depending on experience
