Software Engineer - Hybrid

Job Summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Flight + Plan team on a hybrid basis in Arvada, CO. You will be focused on building and integrating scalable software frameworks for satellite mission planning and operations. This role involves designing and implementing high-performance backend systems in Python and Java, collaborating with aerospace and software engineers, and ensuring robust, cloud-native solutions for modern space operations.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and validate backend systems for satellite modeling, mission planning, and operational algorithms.
• Develop APIs and integrate backend services with cloud infrastructure for scalability, resilience, and security.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with aerospace engineers, frontend developers, and product managers to deliver mission-critical capabilities.
• Optimize software performance and ensure maintainability, quality, and reliability in production environments.
• Build and deploy containerized applications using Kubernetes or serverless architectures.
• Contribute to an agile, iterative engineering environment, taking technical ownership of key features and improvements.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent hands-on expertise).
• Proficiency in Python and experience with Java (C++ or Rust is a plus).
• Strong background in developing software for complex mathematical or physics-based models.
• Hands-on experience with algorithms for optimization, mission planning, orbit determination, or sensor fusion.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, API design, databases (NoSQL and relational), and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, CloudWatch, S3, EC2, RDS) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field;
• Secret Level Security Clearance Mandatory

 Compensation

• Pay Range: $120,000-$170,000 (depending on experience)
