Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer Tier 3 to support a leading provider of information technology products and services for U.S. Government agencies. The Network Engineer Tier 3 will be responsible for implementing, delivering, and monitoring technical support for customer environments; managing and maintaining inventories of client systems; and providing support for operating systems, desktop peripherals, software, core applications, and computer imaging. This position will be on-site in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities of the Network Engineer Tier 3 include:
- Install, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure, including routers, switches, VPNs, load balancers, and security devices.
- Apply security patches and enforce protocols across network devices and systems.
- Monitor and optimize network performance using management tools; troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate inventory of network assets and manage lifecycle tracking.
- Provide design input and technical support during engineering meetings and network projects.
- Manage data center network infrastructure and assist with storage, virtualization, and infrastructure improvements.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in networking and security.
- Troubleshoot outages affecting voice, video, and data services; schedule upgrades and optimizations.
- Demonstrate expertise in routing, switching, firewall configuration, and secure LAN/WAN support.
- Support Linux/Unix and Windows systems, ensuring integration with network services.
- Prepare detailed reports on network performance, incidents, and upgrades.
- Act as primary client contact for hardware/software inquiries and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on complex technical issues and disaster recovery planning.
- Lead or assist in network/system projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to objectives.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support team and organizational goals.
Qualifications for the Network Engineer Tier 3 include:
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to understand and interpret client requirements.
- Hands-on experience configuring Cisco routers and switches (IOS/NX-OS), Palo Alto NextGen Firewalls, VPNs, and working with General Dynamics Taclanes and/or GEMOne.
- Knowledge of F5 Load Balancers, including GTM and Big DNS.
- Technical proficiency with Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems, network security, traffic analysis, incident response, vulnerability assessment, packet analysis, and system hardening.
- Solid understanding of Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing protocols, and encryption/communication protocols such as TLS/SSL, IPsec, SSH, BGP, VLAN, LLDP, LACP, ARP, 802.1x, DNS, AES, NTP.
- Experience in network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
- Must hold or be able to obtain DOE Q Clearance OR Top Secret Clearance.
Compensation for the Network Engineer Tier 3 include:
- Salary Range: $150,000 – $170,000
