Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Test Engineer (Level 4) to lead test environment setup, verification, and validation of avionics software and hardware systems. This role involves designing automated test frameworks, collaborating with CI/CD teams, and supporting Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) testing for safety-critical systems.


Location: Cambridge, MA


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead setup and configuration of test environments including hardware, software, and network configurations to replicate production environments
  • Design, develop, and execute test plans, cases, and scenarios to meet software requirements and specifications
  • Perform verification and validation of software systems to ensure functionality, performance, and safety
  • Identify and report defects, issues, and vulnerabilities during testing processes
  • Provide test results and feedback to resolve defects and improve software design
  • Create and maintain test plans, procedures, cases, artifacts, metrics, and data in compliance with security protocols
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks to improve testing efficiency
  • Set up and maintain Hardware-In-the-Loop automation systems for avionics platforms
  • Collaborate with CI/CD (DevSecOps) teams to integrate software deployment with HIL environments
  • Advise on standardized processes, tools, and methodologies to streamline testing and enable continuous integration and delivery
  • Support troubleshooting and problem resolution for hardware and software integration

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry
  • Typically 5+ years of related work experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience: Master’s + 3 years, PhD + 1 year)
  • Must be able to work onsite in Cambridge, MA
  • Proficient in NI TestStand, NI VeriStand, and NI LabVIEW for HIL testing and automation (or similar platforms)
  • Hands-on experience with NI PXIe systems and hardware integration
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, MATLAB or similar
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (e.g., PyTest)
  • Knowledge of avionics communication protocols (MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, CAN) a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education or experience in modern HIL techniques and/or use of AI tools
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance if sponsored
  • Experience verifying and validating avionics display systems a plus
  • Familiarity with FPGA testing/architecture is a plus
  • Understanding of data acquisition and signal processing techniques
  • Proficient in version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Comfortable working with lab and hardware systems/equipment
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional teamwork

Compensation:

  • $120,000 - $150,000 (Based on years of relevant experience)
