Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Centrifuge Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for supporting scopes of work related to components, assemblies, and machines. The engineer will contribute to the design, analysis, and troubleshooting of high-performance systems while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, building, and troubleshooting high vacuum systems, helium leak detection equipment, composite parts and assemblies, and machined parts and assemblies

• Support the design and analysis of structural and dynamic systems

• Design manufacturing equipment to support production activities

• Develop specifications for fabrication materials and equipment

• Assist in the creation, review, and approval of engineering packages for fabrication

• Establish procedures for assembly and repair of fabricated components

• Drive process improvement initiatives for internal operations and external suppliers

• Manage multiple priorities and ensure deliverables are met within schedule and budget

• Adhere to company policies, procedures, code of conduct, and safety/environmental requirements

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, engineering, manufacturing, operations, testing, quality, and purchasing

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Aerospace Engineering

• 5–7 years of experience in a professional engineering environment (Master’s degree may substitute for experience)

• 5–7 years of CAD experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Q-level or TS security clearance

• Master’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Aerospace Engineering

• Experience with CREO or SolidWorks

• Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

• Centrifuge design, testing, or manufacturing experience

• Experience working with QL-1 or QL-2 quality parts/systems

Compensation:

  • $120,000 - $200,000 (Based on years of relevant experience)
