Senior Ground Segment Systems Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Ground Segment Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Space Force (USSF) in the development, deployment, and sustainment of a National Security Space system. This role supports the Space Systems Command Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power (SSC/SZ) program. This position will be onsite in El Segundo, CA!

Responsibilities of the Ground Systems Engineer include:

• Lead systems engineering activities including requirements definition, interface management, data architecture, verification and validation, and performance analysis.
• Develop and manage ground segment technical and interface requirements, including negotiation with external stakeholders and verification oversight.
• Oversee and assess software product backlogs to ensure alignment with baseline and emerging requirements; recommend prioritization strategies and implementation improvements.
• Translate product requirements into total systems solutions that balance technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
• Support development of CONOPs, system testing, algorithm documentation, and integration with other application development efforts.
• Contribute to acquisition strategy development and provide recommendations to resolve program execution challenges.

Qualifications for the Ground Systems Engineer include:

• Active TS clearance
• Experience with Space systems engineering, technical program management, and government acquisitions
• Agile software development, DevSecOps, containerization, and orchestration
• Integration of ground segment systems, including cloud-based infrastructure and PaaS environments
• Zero-Trust cybersecurity implementation
• Software systems design, architecture, and CI/CD pipelines
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related discipline and 18+ years of relevant experience

Compensation for the Ground Systems Engineer includes:

• Salary: $200,000-$240,000
