Senior Network Engineer

Job Summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineering Lead to join our on-site team in Rockville, MD. This role requires a self-starter with expert-level networking knowledge and strong leadership capabilities. The ideal candidate will lead a team of network engineers, collaborate directly with federal clients, and drive complex network initiatives to completion. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in network troubleshooting, security, and infrastructure management.

Responsibilities of the Network Engineering Lead

• Lead and manage a team of network engineers, ensuring timely and effective project execution.
• Collaborate with federal stakeholders to understand requirements and drive initiatives to completion.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and resolve complex network issues.
• Manage and execute network software upgrades, particularly on Cisco switches.
• Maintain and implement SOPs for network security and update technical documentation.
• Oversee vulnerability remediation processes and ensure compliance with security standards.
• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco ASA 5500/Firepower and Palo Alto Firewalls using Panorama.
• Administer and troubleshoot Cisco IPsec VPNs and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
• Utilize tools such as SolarWinds, Riverbed, Splunk, and Wireshark for network monitoring and analysis.
• Support Azure networking, including NSG configurations.
• Manage TLS certificate renewals and installations.
• Participate in change management processes and support after-hours/weekend maintenance windows as needed.

Qualifications of the Network Engineering Lead

• Proven experience leading network engineering teams and working with federal clients.
• Must-have expertise in:
  • NetScaler Citrix
  • Cisco ASA 5500 / Firepower
  • SOP development and documentation
  • After-hours and weekend on-site support
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Cisco switches and network software upgrades
  • Cisco IPsec VPNs and ISE
  • Palo Alto Firewalls and Panorama
  • Azure NSGs and cloud networking
  • LAN, WAN, wireless technologies
  • Change management and vulnerability remediation
• Proficiency in using:
  • SolarWinds automation scripts
  • Riverbed, Splunk, and Wireshark
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Strong communication and leadership abilities

Compensation for the Senior Network Engineer:

·      Salary Range: $140,000-$170,000/year **depending on experience**
