Development Manager- Hybrid- Fairfax, VA

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Development Manager to join a Government Consulting company located in Fairfax, VA through a hybrid work environment. The Development Manager will lead a team of developers in designing, building, and maintaining a large-scale cybersecurity data solution for a federal program, while also contributing hands-on to system architecture, coding, and process improvement.

Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor a team of software developers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence. Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from planning and design to deployment and support. Contribute to hands-on development tasks including coding, scripting, and system configuration. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, assign tasks, and ensure timely delivery of features. Implement and refine development methodologies, tools, and processes to enhance productivity and reduce technical debt.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years in software development and systems integration, with increasing leadership responsibilities.
• 6+ years in solution design, cloud-native services, serverless deployments, and container orchestration.
• 4+ years of hands-on programming in Python or Java, including scripting and data integration.
• 3+ years supporting federal programs with contract values over $50M.
• 2+ years managing engineering teams of 5+ members.
• 1+ year working with Elasticsearch and large-scale data environments.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, message brokers, structured/unstructured data stores.
• Familiarity with both Windows and Linux environments.
• Experience with ALM tools such as Jira and Bitbucket.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Certifications: None required, but AWS or cybersecurity-related certifications are a plus.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $130,000 – $165,000 depending on experience
