Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to join a Federal Program located in Washington, DC. The Network Engineer will support Department of Energy by implementing, providing, and monitoring technical support of customer environments, conduct, and maintain inventories of client systems, support operating systems, desktop peripherals, software, core desktop applications and imaging of computers.
Responsibilities of the Network Engineer include:
· Install, configure, maintain, and optimize LAN/WAN infrastructure, including routers, switches, VPNs, load balancers, and security devices.
· Apply security patches to network devices, including routers, switches, voice/video systems, and security appliances.
· Monitor and analyze network performance using management tools, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance.
· Maintain inventory of network assets, including hardware and software, ensuring efficient asset tracking.
· Provide design recommendations and technical feedback during engineering meetings for network projects.
· Manage data center network infrastructure, assist with storage and virtualization systems, and collaborate on infrastructure improvements.
· Stay informed of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in networking and system security.
· Troubleshoot and resolve network problems and outages, including voice, video, and data services, and schedule upgrades.
· Demonstrate expertise in routing, switching, and firewall configuration for secure LAN/WAN networks.
· Support Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems, including system security management.
· Submit detailed reports on network performance, incidents, upgrades, and infrastructure status.
· Act as the primary contact for clients, addressing software and hardware inquiries and troubleshooting issues.
· Participate in team meetings to share updates, ideas, and solutions; lead or assist in network projects.
· Lead or assist in network or system-related projects, ensuring proper planning and timely completion.
· Implement and enforce security protocols for network infrastructure to prevent unauthorized access and threats.
· Plan and implement backup and disaster recovery solutions for network and data services.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex technical issues and ensure swift resolution.
· Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned, contributing to team and organizational success.
Qualifications for the Network Engineer include:
· 10+ years of relevant experience
· Cisco Router and switch configuration (IOS/NX-OS), Palo Alto NextGen Firewall and VPN configuration experience, General Dynamics Taclanes and/or GEMOne experience.
· F5 Load Balancer knowledge, GTM/Big DNS knowledge.
· Proficient with Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems, network security, network traffic analysis, incident response, vulnerability analysis, packet analysis, and systems hardening.
· Knowledge of layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing protocols, encryption protocols, communication protocols (e.g., TLS/SSL, IPsec, SSH, BGP, VLAN, LLDP, LACP, ARP, 802.1x, DNS, AES, NTP).
· Network design and implementation, network troubleshooting, network performance tuning.
· An Active Top Secret or Q Clearance
Compensation for the Network Engineer includes:
· Salary Range: $145,000 - $170,000 depending on experience
